2018 Road to Discovery Bike Ride

Students from ESTEEM (Engineering, Science, & Technology Entrepreneurship Excellence Master’s Program) at Notre Dame are organizing the 2018 Road To Discovery event: a four-day bike ride that follows Coach Ara Parseghian’s collegiate coaching career.  The ride will take place on May 13 – 17, 2018, and will start in Oxford, OH, head through Indianapolis, IN on the way to to Chicago, Ill., and then to Notre Dame.

The goal of the annual Road to Discovery bike rides are to raise funds and awareness for the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Fund (APMRF) at Notre Dame, which is dedicated to finding a treatment or cure for Niemann-Pick Type C (NPC) disease. Throughout the history of these rides we have visited over 150 cities, held over 125 events, been featured in myriad news stories and articles, and raised more than $2 million for NPC disease research.

This will be the 8th annual Road to Discovery bike ride, and the students’ goal is to raise $100,000.  Please consider supporting the students fundraising efforts by making a gift today.  You can sponsor them for the 400 mile ride by making a gift at the following levels:

10cents per mile = $40
50cents per mile = $200
$1 per mile = $400

Road To Discovery Cycling Opportunity: 2:00-5:00 p.m.

If you feel up to the challenge, on Wednesday, May 17th, from 2:00-5:00 p.m., you can actually ride alongside the students. It’s a 30-mile jaunt before the reception, from Millennium Park, to Hammond, Ind., and back to Millennium Park.

Those who wish to participate in cycling with the students as they ride into Chicago will gather at the corner of Jackson and Michigan Avenue (across from the Santa Fe Building and the southwest corner of the Art Institute) between 2:00-2:30 p.m. From there, the riders will cycle to Hammond (Specifically, to the Walmart parking lot located at 1100 5th Ave., Hammond.) to connect with the ESTEEM student riders. The group will then cycle back to downtown Chicago (Millennium Park).

For riders, a suggested donation of $300 to the Parseghian Fund at Notre Dame is appreciated, which is equivalent to $10/mile (for alumni who graduated after 2008, the suggested donation is $150). Those who make a gift will have the option of purchasing a 2018 Road to Discovery Cycling Jersey and Bib Shorts for $150. *Your gift is credited your annual giving to Notre Dame.

There are bike racks in front of the Gage and Millennium Park. You can also store your bikes in the garage at the Chicago Athletic Club (one block from the Gage).

Those who wish to ride will also need to sign a waiver.
