Research
With the ultimate goal of saving lives, the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Fund raises funds to sustain an energetic program of NPC research at Notre Dame and with collaborators worldwide.
The Ara Parseghian Medical Research Fund continues to advance the world’s knowledge of NPC disease. The APMRF has been funding the top scientists from around the world since the foundation launched in 1994. These funded scientists have discovered the genetic cause of the disease, advanced the understanding of the NPC pathway, developed novel tools and animal models to research NPC, and supported the development of therapeutics that are now in the clinic and helping patients.
The APMRF grant funding program seeks to fund top scientists dedicated to helping us find a cure for NPC disease. Additionally, support is provided to a series of strategic research initiatives that will help accelerate our ability to bring treatments and a cure to patients.
Funding has had the added benefit of advancing our knowledge of other cholesterol-storage related diseases and neurological diseases (such as Alzheimer’s), and there has even been a recent discovery that mutations associated with NPC may prevent an Ebola virus infection.
